Choosing a wakizashi
A wakizashi is commonly recognized as a shorter Japanese sword and was historically associated with the katana as part of a paired set. For a modern newly made piece, the most useful comparison is between the actual measurements, weight, blade geometry and mounting rather than the name alone.
Review how the shorter blade is matched to the tsuka and saya. Our fitting process checks alignment, stability, retention and the visible junctions between the habaki, seppa, tsuba, fuchi, handle and scabbard mouth.
Proportion
Compare blade length and handle length instead of relying only on total length.
Weight
Use both sheathed and unsheathed weight when the two figures are available.
Edge condition
Confirm sharpened or unsharpened requirements before production.
Matching set
