Store the sword in a stable, dry environment away from condensation, damp walls and rapid temperature changes. Inspect more frequently in humid climates.
Check the blade, visible fittings, wrap and saya condition periodically. If corrosion, looseness or damage appears, stop handling and seek appropriate advice.
Display products should not be treated as practice equipment. Any practical use requires suitable experience, supervision, inspection and a piece specified for that purpose.
