What to compare on a tanto
Because a tanto is compact, small differences in blade length, point geometry and handle size can noticeably change its appearance. Check the straight-line measurements shown on the product page and compare the weight both with and without the saya when available.
Look closely at the fit around the habaki and saya mouth as well as the alignment of the fittings and handle. These assembly details are part of our workshop inspection and are especially visible on a compact piece.

Compact dimensions
Check blade, handle and overall length rather than using the category name as a size guarantee.

Before you choose
Is a tanto simply a small katana?
No. Although the two share some mounting vocabulary, a tanto has its own compact proportions. Blade shape, point, handle and saya should be considered together.
Can a tanto be supplied unsharpened?
Selected models may be supplied sharpened or unsharpened. Confirm the required edge condition and destination before the order is approved.
Can you engrave a tanto?
Yes. Text, simple symbols and selected designs may be reviewed for placement on the blade, habaki, tang or saya.
