Choosing between Chinese sword forms
Start with blade form. A jian is generally a straight, double-edged sword, while dao refers to a broad family of primarily single-edged Chinese blades. The exact geometry, proportions and mounting vary, so the individual product specification should guide the decision.
Review overall length together with blade length, handle length and weight. Fittings and scabbard construction also affect the completed piece, particularly on models with hardwood, metal or carved decorative elements.
