01 — Purpose & proportions
We begin with collection, presentation or supervised practice context, then discuss blade family, edge condition, blade length, handle length and target handling.

A coherent sword is more than a list of selectable colours. Blade geometry, heat treatment, point form, mounting weight, grip construction and saya fit are reviewed together, while decorative choices are made in support of the whole design.
A bespoke commission begins with intended use, experience, preferred dimensions, visual references, destination and budget range. BladeSummit then coordinates a written build sheet and production estimate before any deposit is requested.

Material, construction and heat-treatment language are selected together. A visible hamon, folded grain or polish is described accurately rather than treated as a universal quality score.
Curvature, niku, kissaki form, grooves and point of balance are reviewed where relevant. Not every combination is suitable, so the workshop confirms feasibility before approval.
Wrap material, underwrap, guard and companion fittings are considered for grip, mass distribution and visual coherence—not as isolated catalogue add-ons.
Saya material, retention, surface finish, cord and any inscription are recorded in the same build sheet as the blade and mountings.
Price, estimate, included items and available pre-shipping photographs or measurements are agreed in writing before production. Material changes require review.
Destination review, quotation, build-sheet approval and production timing are handled before final shipping arrangements.
